With hybrid PoW you could have 2 algos: an ASIC friendly one that counters botnets and a CPU friendly one that allows decentralized mining. Nether alone is even capable of a 51{88c91daedd271a990a10650c05d769cae2765e0603edf30ca95f18704e5748e8} attack.

And as far as I know, it can be deployed as a softfork (miners not needed for acivation, compatible with older nodes)!
