On January 14, 2016, Brookings convened roundtable discussions about the future of distributed ledger technology with industry and policy stakeholders, where Barry Silbert stated:

One, I didn't want to call it bitcoin blah blah blah, because we are now 7 years into this experiment and it's highly likely that bitcoin will not be the winner – today I think it will be – but it is likely it won't be longer term; and I think currency is fairly aspirational for this industry."*

Just posting this, because it still baffles me that key players in the bitcoin industry have rallied around a proposal from somebody who not only didn't get a single Core Developer to sign the NYA or vouch for it, but also from somebody, who by his own admission, doesn't seem to have a lot of faith in bitcoin in the long term.
